Duane > Skeg Jammer Island strikes again! With small pebbles at most beaches on the island, skegs frequently get jammed. Jake is helping Dennis with his jammed skeg.
Duane > Ken's skeg jammed too. Jake is holding the kayak for him. Our launch was delayed due to the jammed skegs.
Duane > Without a skeg or rudder to help tune out a load not trimmed perfectly, I use a dedicated water bag filled with ocean water and placed on the deck to adjust the trim when necessary. My load was a little bow heavy on the return crossing, so I placed the "trim bag" on the back deck to improve tracking.
Duane > That's not a feather in Dennis' cap! Halfway across the channel, this bird was flying around us like it was exhausted. It seemed to want to land on our kayaks to rest but was scared. When it landed in the water, Jake scooped it up and placed it on his kayak. Then it flew onto his head, where it rested a bit before flying onto Dennis' head. After a short rest, the bird flew off to Catalina.
Duane > Approaching the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The weather on the return crossing was good too.
Duane > Back at Cabrillo. We did the return crossing in five hours.
